Leslie Garrett “Gary” Guard, Jr., 75, of Friendsville, MD, died Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Born August 22, 1949, in Meyersdale, PA, he was the son of the late Leslie Garrett and Betty Jean (Gilmore) Guard, Sr.
He started his driving carrier hauling clay and milk for local companies before driving 11 years for Ringer’s Trucking, Markleysburg, PA. From 1988 to 2019 he was an owner-operator and then transitioned to part-time. Gary had over 50 years of driving experience and more than 5 Million miles on the road. His passions were working on the family farm and International Tractors. He was a member of the Mill Run Mercy Chapel, Friendsville and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Cumberland, MD.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dawn (Johnston) Guard; three siblings, Nancy House, Dorsey Ray (Wanda) Guard and Marie Guard Wiehler; along with, one niece, several nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Mill Run Mercy Chapel on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Daymond Schmuck officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Cremation will follow the services.
