Ella May Brotherton Obituary

Ella Brotherton, 82, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Unity Point Hospital -Trinity Muscatine.   Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Grandview Community Bible Church.  Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in memory of Ella.     Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Ella May Wilson was born on May 11, 1942 in Mountain View, Missouri, the daughter of Lisle and Vera (Eggenburg) Wilson.  On May 5, 1958, she was united in marriage to James Brotherton in Iowa City.  She was employed at Thatcher Plastics and from 1987 to 1997 she owned the Island Grocery with her husband.  Ella was a very active member of Grandview Community Bible Church. She loved attending church and Sunday School.  Ella enjoyed fishing, camping, going for breakfast, playing various games with her family, visiting the dog park with her beagle, Tigger, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and traveling to all 48 contiguous states with Jim and their families.  Most of all she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. 

Ella will be deeply missed by her children, Roxanne Schlapkohl and her husband, Gary of Red Wing, Minnesota;  James "Butch" Brotherton, Jr and his wife Karen of Earlville, Iowa, John Brotherton and his wife, Donnetta of Grandview, Iowa, and Joe Brotherton and his fiancé, Sarah Bennett of Wapello, Iowa; grandchildren, Ian, Steven, Kristin, Samantha, Calvin, Mikayla and Allison; great-grandchildren, Parker, Ash, Bryden, Ryver, Sam, Kaitlyn and Chase; siblings, William “Koose” Wilson of Muscatine, Beatrice “Bea” McCleary and her husband, Pete of Muscatine, Iowa, Mary Jane Carter and her husband, Don of Muscatine, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Jenny Wilson and Marlene Wilson.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, John “Cy” Wilson, Vernon “Mickey” Wilson and Margaret “Muff” Thompson.
