Lannie Roach Obituary

Lannie Joe Roach was the only child of Lannie Lee Roach and Emma Pearl Bailey Roach.  He was born on December 14,1947 in Dallas, Texas.  He grew up in the White’s Chapel area where he graduated from Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas on May 27, 1966.  His father passed away when he was 18 years old, and for the next 28 years Lannie Joe was a devoted caregiver to his mother who lost her sight later in life. He worked faithfully for Birdville Independent School District until his retirement in 2012.

Lannie Joe was baptized at Pleasant Hill Advent Christian Church and attended there regularly.  At age 30 he moved his membership to Riverside Advent Christian Church in Fort Worth where he served as a deacon, licensed minister, elder and elder emeritus.

While he did not pursue a formal education, Lannie Joe was a life-long student of God’s Word and theology.  He collected so many theological books during his lifetime that when he moved out of his home and eventually to Green Valley Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, thousands of his books filled a large U-Haul truck and were donated to the Arlington Bible College Library.  Lannie Joe had read them all and remembered so much of what he read that he was able to serve as an incredible resource for the church and many leaders who pastored the church.  Sometimes he was called on to preach at Riverside.  On those occasions, Lannie Joe would draw on his careful study of God’s Word to preach sermons of great depth, always written out in longhand.

Though not a man of many words in most social situations, Lannie Joe loved words, loved to read, and was able to recall information with fantastic detail on a wide range of subjects.  If a person was privileged to know Lannie Joe and took the time to talk with him, he would be amazed with the many things he knew, not only about the Bible, but about other topics such as comedy, music, and history. especially local history.

It was a privilege to know Lannie Joe, and to learn from his wisdom.

He died at age 76 on October 30, 2024.  He is survived by 3 generations of cousins and many friends.
