DANVILLE - Gerald A. Durbin, age 83, of Danville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
He was born to Kenny and Mary Rita (Breckler) Durbin on April 12, 1941.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during both the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War. Following his military service, he was a dedicated member of his community who touched many lives through his work as the owner of The Hangout, which he operated alongside his wife, Sue. He was also a proud member of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA) Construction Laborers Local 423.
Gary was blessed with two great loves in his life. On February 27, 1971, he married Suellen, sharing 22 beautiful years together until her passing. Later, he found companionship and happiness with Karen Martin, who also preceded him in death.
Gary was an active member of his community, belonging to St. Luke Catholic church, the American Legion Post 257, Moose Lodge, and VFW 245. He was an avid sports enthusiast who particularly enjoyed playing golf and spending time at the dog races. He found great joy in spending time in Florida, where he loved to vacation with his family. He shared a special bond with his great-granddaughter Mylah, who was his devoted little helper and brought great joy to his life.
He is survived by his four sons: Keith, Kevin, Kyle (Valerie), and Kirk (Tonya); eleven grandchildren: Kayla (Josh), Michael, Emily, Brittney, Giselle, Ridge (Renee), Garrett, Jordan, Skyler (Taryn), Nick, and Gianna; and twelve great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Delores, Tommy (Beth), Dale, Jeff (Teresa), brother-in-law Joe, and sister-in-law Betty. Gerald was preceded in death by his sister Janet and brother Kenny.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, November 4, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville with the Reverend Father Mark Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
