James Darrell Odom Obituary

James Darrell Odom, 84, of Lamar, SC, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.  A visitation will be held at the Lamar Belk Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 30th at 3 to 4pm.  His funeral service will follow at 4pm in the Lamar Belk Funeral Home Chapel, with burial immediately following at Lamar Memorial Cemetery. 

James was born September 29, 1940, to the late Darrell Lawrence Odom and Virginia Morrell Odom Turner.  His will and determination were evident after contracting polio at the age of nine months.          

He retired from Burlington Industries after more than 31 years of dedicated service.

James had a love for the outdoors.  He enjoyed horseback riding, jeeping, archery, hunting, and fishing.  He also had a love for his animals.  He shared the love of those things with his family and friends.  But most of all James enjoyed time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Annette; two daughters Tammy Nettles (Ricky) and Jamie Watson; a son Jay Odom (Jennifer), all of Lamar; a sister Carolyn Jessen (Herbert) of Walterboro, SC; five grandchildren Micheal Huneycutt (Sarah) of Lamar; Whitney Coker (Julian) of Scranton; Taylor Shelley (Brandon) of Darlington, Meagan Watson of Florence, and AJ Odom of Lamar; and eight great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Millie, Silas, Paisley, Brenlee, Addi, Anni, and Wilder.

He was predeceased by his mother and father; sisters, Nettie Howle of Darlington and Mildred Odom of Lamar; brothers Cephas Odom of Bishopville; Gene Odom of Lamar, and Tom Odom of Society Hill.
