Susan “Sue” “Suzy” Jane Whitney (nee Whittemore), 76, passed from this world on Monday, October 14, 2024 of natural causes.
Born in Nashua, NH on September 27, 1948, she was the oldest child of Charles Reginald and Wanda Frances Whittemore. She grew up in Pelham, was educated in local schools, and graduated from Nashua High School with the class of 1966.
As a teenager, Suzy was a member of Nashua Assembly #9, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and later served as Mother Advisor in 1990. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 57-years, serving as Worthy Matron of Pilgrim Chapter #55 in Nashua in 1973, as Grand Representative to Louisiana in NH, and as a member of the Old Fashioned Degree Team.
She worked at JF McElwain in Nashua after high school until after marrying William and starting her family. Later she worked in the cafeterias of Hudson Memorial School and Nottingham West Elementary. She also worked with her husband to start and run Whitney Beefalo Farm. She was a long-time member of Hudson Community Church and served the church in many capacities.
Sue was incredibly proud of her children, and believed it was her duty to be involved in the things they did. She supported Boy Scout Troop # 20 in Hudson in many ways, including as an Assistant Scout Master. As her sons’ involvement grew, so did hers. She was the Training Chair of Daniel Webster Council and earned her Wood Badge.
She adored her grandchildren. Suzy was an avid reader who loved to tell stories of her family, show off the great variety of plants at her home, and spend time learning about nature and animals. She loved going to the fairs, and spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee. She enjoyed baking and took classes to learn how to decorate cakes. At the end of the course, she was so talented at decorating cakes that she won a contest with the prize being the cost of the course.
Suzy was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 45 years, William, and her brother James. She leaves behind her daughter Gail Brown, her husband Jeffrey, and their daughters Jeannette, Abigail, Caroline and Susannah; her son Charles Whitney, his girlfriend Lori Flynn MacDonald, and his sons Aidan and Logan; and her son Shaun Whitney, and his wife Meaghan; her sister Gail Heimbach, her husband Bruce; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones.
