Blanche Jean Marie Oden-Hymes of Washington, D.C., departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2024, suddenly. She was born on January 30, 1951, in Washington, D.C, at D.C. General Hospital, the youngest of 6 children. A devoted daughter of the late Pearline Savannah Oden and Thomas Oden.
Blanche received her formal education in the District of Columbia public schools, where she graduated from Chamberlin High School. In her early years, she held positions in her career. She loved celebrating life with family and friends and going on trips to football games and horse racing tracks. In her later years, she became a housewife and was pretty much a homebody. She loved being at home babysitting, dancing to her favorite music, and watching her favorite TV game shows.
Blanche accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at a young age at Saint Paul Baptist Church.
Blanche was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a very giving person. She would help in any way she could when she had less. She was well-liked among her family and friends. She was known for her generosity, kindness, and humor.
Blanche was preceded in death by her mother, Pearline Savannah Oden; father, Thomas Oden; three brothers, George Stewart, Edward Oden, and Ralf Oden; and two sisters, Bonnie Stewart and Gloria Wells.
Blanche’s legacy lives in the hearts of her three children, Sherman Williams Jr., Selena Brown, and Lavinia Hymes; Grandchildren, Tyeisha Brown, Tyree Brown, and Tynika Brown; great-granddaughter, Legacy Brown; three nieces, Michelle, Tawanda, and Teresa; great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
