Gaynell McBurney, born September 1, 1940, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on October 24, 2024. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Stowe McBurney Sr.; her mother, Merle Thompson McBurney; her brother, Fred Stowe McBurney Jr.; her daughter, Rhonda Jo Berry Wasson; and her grandson, James Daniel Taylor.


Gaynell is survived by her devoted sister, Elaine McBurney Cranston and husband Frank; sister, Jeanie McBurney Wade and husband Brannon; her children, Vickie Taylor Gilstrap, Thomas (Tommy) Taylor Jr. and life partner Miss Mary Garcia, Debbie Taylor McCloud and husband Steve, and Russell (Rusty) Taylor. She was immensely blessed with 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her so much love, smiles and joy.


Gaynell spent many cherished years living in Irving, where she thrived in her career as a gemologist for Bock Jewelry for over 20 years, followed by 15 years at Landmark Title Company. Known affectionately as "Sister G" to her motorcycle friends and family, she was a beloved member of the LongRiders Motorcycle Club in Tyler for over 25 years. Gaynell found great joy in their Annual Toy Run, where she helped collect toys for children and rode alongside Santa to deliver them, embodying her spirit of giving and community.


A passionate traveler, Gaynell enjoyed countless adventures with family and friends, creating memories that will last a lifetime.


A graveside service will be held to honor her life on Nov 2 at 1:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery in Athens, Tx. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to celebrate Gaynell’s spirit by taking a ride in her memory, cherishing time with your loved ones, or making a donation to the LongRiders Motorcycle Club Annual Toy Run at 1402 FM 850, Tyler, Texas 75707.
