Suzanne R. Mitchell, 78, of Colona, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island surrounded by her family. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center or Rescued. 

Suzanne was born December 30, 1945, in Davenport, a daughter of Paul A. Faur and Eleanor H. Teufel. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1963. Suzanne earned her bachelor’s degree after attending Blackhawk and Marycrest colleges. She married Mark B. Mitchell on July 2, 1966. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2002. Suzanne devoted her life to teaching and was awarded Master Teacher in 2000. She spent most of her days teaching 3rd grade at Bicentennial School in Coal Valley, retiring in 2010, after teaching 38 classes of students who loved her. She will be remembered by her students for her love of flamingos. Former students may remember her for her fun class projects, such as cookbooks, pencil holders, and handmade ceramic Santas. After retirement she volunteered at both Bicentennial and Colona Grade School. She was a long-time member of her sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma and was a dedicated member of her Bunco/Euchre club and book club. She enjoyed running into past students and visiting with them.  Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family, especially on her vacations to Seeley, Wisconsin. 

Those left to cherish Sue’s memory include her son, James Mitchell; daughter, Christine Ochsner; grandchildren, Austin Ochsner, Ethan Ochsner, and Brian (Miachel Kerschieter) Ochsner; sisters, Judee Wallaert and Barbara VanHecke; sister-in-law, Joanne (Mitch) Abrams; nieces and nephew, Katie (Patrick) Galvin, Tom (Jenni) Wallaert, and Carolyn (Bryan Clark) Abrams; great-nephews and great-nieces, Michael, Elizabeth, Kenley, and Weston; and her many adored grand puppies and kitties. 

Suzanne was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor (Sigmund) Smyk and father, Paul Faur; husband, Mark Mitchell; son, John Mitchell; siblings, Janet Voorhis, Duane Faur, and Carol Walsh; brother-in-law, Michael Wallaert; and niece, Elizabeth Wallaert. 

Suzanne was proud and supportive of her family and everyone she knew, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
