Charlie Werner, 61, of Athens Texas passed away on October 22, 2024.

Charlie was born on October 23,1962 to Robert and Anna Werner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Athens High School where he met the love of his life, Renee’. He went on to get his bachelors in accounting from the University of Tennessee. He worked for Home Federal Bank in Knoxville for 20 years before moving to Texas and working for KPE, and finally Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Charlie and Renee’ met in high school in 1980. They moved to Tennessee together in 1983 where they spent time riding motorcycles with friends and going to Cade’s Cove.They got married in 1988 and they had two children, Matthew and Emily, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Together they all enjoyed going to Smokies games and spending summer vacations in Myrtle Beach. In 2008, they moved back to Athens where they finished creating their beautiful life.

Charlie and his wife shared an RV where they would spend many weekends camping and exploring together. He enjoyed grilling for his family and going swimming. He loved going to church but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Anna Werner and his in-laws Wes and Ardine Walden.

Those left to carry on his memory are his wife Renee’ of Athens, children Matthew Werner of Athens and Emily Werner of Tyler. Siblings Barbara and Andrew Pflueger of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Robert Werner of Meadowbrook, Alabama, Curtis and Tawna Walden of Malakoff and Kevin and Heather Walden of Athens as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Lance Funkhouser, Garrett Conley, Alex Wilcher, Doug Rader, Jason Moore, and Brandon Steele.

Services for Charlie will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday October 29, 2024 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Ash Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening from 5-7 P.M.
