Henry Conrad Fischer Obituary

In Memory of Henry Conrad Fischer
May 6, 1928 – September 29, 2024

Henry Fischer of Sequim, Washington, was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, to Conrad and Elizabeth
Schneider. Tragically, both of his parents passed away before he turned one. He was welcomed into the family
of his aunt, Katherine (Lohner) Fischer, her husband, Samuel, and their 17-year-old daughter, Adeline.

Henry obtained his BS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During his senior year, he
met freshman Jeanette Tollefson in their German class. On July 18, 1953, after finishing his degree and serving two years
in the army, Henry married Jeanette, with whom he spent the next 71 years. The couple began their family life in
Detroit. In 1958 they moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when Henry received the Ford Foundation Scholarship to
pursue graduate work at Carnegie Mellon University. In 1961, they relocated to Seattle, Washington where Henry took
a position at the University of Washington, later working for Boeing and Washington State University.

As a couple, Henry and Jeanette functioned as partners. Their language of love was service. They took care of their
parents and children, welcomed spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the family, supported their friends,
and gave of themselves to help others. They taught their children by being involved in their children’s lives and
living their values.

Henry was a devoted husband, father, and provider. In addition to his full-time job, he played a major role in the design,
building, and landscaping of three family homes. As a talented builder, he was always in the garage. As a skilled
handyman, Henry could, and did, fix everything. Henry loved to have fun. He was mischievous, and quite a jokester.
Christmas and Thanksgiving were special times when the family got together.

Henry loved to learn. He was a man of faith who was willing to express his doubts while being deeply involved in his
faith communities. Henry loved to travel. What began as a necessity when driving his family cross-country from
Pittsburgh to Seattle, evolved into vacations filled with hiking, camping, and exploring national parks. After retiring in
1988, Henry and Jeanette embarked on an extended trip to Alaska before choosing Sequim, Washington as their home.

On September 29, 2024, Henry passed away at the age of 96. He was a remarkable man—a creative, fun-loving,
dedicated husband, father, and grampa.

Henry is survived by his wife, five daughters, one son, four sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, twelve grandchildren, four
spouses of grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. He is
preceded in death by one son, his sister and his parents.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church in
