The family of Gilbert Richard Turcotte is saddened to announce his sudden but peaceful passing in his home on October 14, 2024 at the age of 88 years. Born and raised in Falher, Alberta, Gilbert pursued his studies in pharmacy at the University of Alberta and then worked in Edmonton for a few years prior to moving to Calgary where he resided most of his life. Recently, due to his failing health, Gilbert moved back to Edmonton to be closer to family.
Gilbert was passionate about music and movies. He was happiest when he could host movie nights in his home on a weekly basis for the last 30 years welcoming numerous friends, family and neighbors to join in. He had a huge collection of cassettes, LP’s, CD’s, movies which he loved to share and talk about. Gilbert was also a gifted piano player and in his younger years growing up he played in a band who performed at the local dances. Gilbert always maintained strong ties to his Francophone heritage and culture and communicated with many of his relatives in Quebec.
Gilbert is survived by his brothers, Roland (Léonne) and Léo (Suzanne), and 7 nephews and 3 nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Paul (Norma) and his parents, Bruno and Jeanne Turcotte. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date in July of 2025 in Falher, Alberta.
