Roger Willys Hehr Obituary

Roger Willys Hehr, proud father and loving husband, died in Bend, Oregon from complications related to his Lewy Body Dementia on October 7, 2024.

He was born in Ferdonia, North Dakota on February 21, 1936, to Ida and Robert Hehr and grew up on a farm alongside his six brothers and sisters. Roger completed high school and went on to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead in northwest Minnesota. Following graduation, Roger was proud to have done his duty to help defend the freedom of citizens across this country by serving in the U.S. Army, and later in the Army Reserve. The U.S. Army took him to Seattle, Washington, where he married in 1959 and had two children, Janet and Greg.

In 1981, Roger got remarried to Barbara Ann Deming. He was an honest, kind, loving husband to her for 43 years. Working hard to help support his family, he had a meaningful 37-year career in the aircraft industry at Boeing in Seattle, where he worked in production control.

After retirement, Roger and Barbara relocated to Florida for more than 20 years. From there they traveled across the country in their motorhome every summer and traveled the world together.

He was a loving father to Janet and Greg, stepchildren Richard and Debra, and his two grandsons, John-Michael and Cameron, all who dearly miss him and will treasure the life lessons he imparted to them. Among his cherished traits were his unwavering positive attitude and good humor. Among the many hobbies he enjoyed with his children were water skiing, snow skiing, camping and boating.

Roger was predeceased by his parents Robert and Ida Hehr and five of his siblings, Raymond, Milbert, Florence, Marlene & Edna. Roger is survived by his wife Barbara, and his children Janet and (Joe) Ghiglione, Greg and (Kathy) Hehr, Richard A. and (Darcy H.) Deming, Debra and (Rick) Hughes, grandsons John-Michael Ghiglione and Cameron Hughes and his brother LeMore Hehr.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Habitat for Humanity - Veterans Build Initiative.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the caregivers that have helped Roger over the past few years, especially Margaret during his time in Walnut Creek, California and the team at Touchmark at Mt. Bachelor Village in Bend, Oregon.
