Carol Esther (Wells) Gibson, 90, of Lexington, Indiana, returned to the Lord on Tuesday October 22, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Carol was born on December 24, 1933, in DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of the late Ray and Thelma Wells. Carol was a 1951 graduate of Lexington High School.
She married Leon Gibson, the love of her life, on December 31,1948, in Nabb, Indiana. They were married for sixty-two years until his death on April 22, 2011. In her personal life, Carol found joy in her faith and family. She hosted family dinners at her home every Sunday evening and holidays until her passing.
She was a long-time member and former pianist of Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church, Scott Memorial Guild for forty-nine years, Lexington Historical Society, and a Red Cross Volunteer. She held many jobs through the years in the community including Head Cook at Lexington Elementary and the co-owner of the old Gibson Market.
Along with her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by a son, Samuel; a brother, Donald Wells; a sister, Lois Wells; and a great-granddaughter, Emoree Eldridge.
Survivors include three sons, Joe (Debbie) Gibson of Lexington, Indiana, Mitchell (Cindy) Gibson of Nabb, Indiana, and David (Gloria) Gibson of Lexington, Indiana; a sister, Janet Johnson of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, Michael Wells of Berkeley, California; eight grandchildren, Greg, Adam, Shane, and Mathew Gibson, Amanda Judd, Megan Gregg, Lesley Eldridge, and Heather Richey; and twenty-three great-grandchildren, Aubree and Parker Eldridge, Ryan, Hope, Macy, Clay, Mya, Jake, Kya, and Noah Gibson, Molly, Connor, and Sean Gregg, Dalton, TyLynn, Casen, and Bridger Judd, Madisyn, Makenna, Raleigh, Maliyah, and Rhyland Richey.
Funeral services will be on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 11:00 am at Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and on Monday prior to the service from 9:00am to 11:00am also at the church.
