Mary Helen Lumry Obituary

Mary was born April 29, 1932, to Andrew and Essie (Golden) Rateliff in Watonga, Oklahoma, and passed away October 21, 2024 in Midwest City, when she was reunited in heaven with her husband of 63 years.

She met Darrell Lumry at the Midwest City skating rink and they were married on December 24, 1954 in Jones. Mary became step-mom to Darrell’s children, Ray and Sue. Mary and Darrell later had two children together, Mike and Terri. They moved to Harrah in the early 1960s and attended First Baptist Church of Harrah where they made many friends. In 1997 they moved to Choctaw and joined Choctaw Road Baptist Church where they were very active for many years. They owned a lot at Lake Eufaula for some time and loved having their kids, grandkids, and anyone else visit. They enjoyed traveling, especially summer trips to the Durango, Colorado area with their fifth wheel and made good friends there. They also took several mission trips and traveled to visit friends in other states. After Darrell was moved to a care facility in 2016, Mary moved to Midwest City to be nearer to him. She lived at Arbor House for several years until her passing. Mary was known for her kindness, her willingness to help others, her humor, her green thumb (those hydrangeas!) and her cooking skills. People were always happy to receive her peanut brittle and bridge mix around the holidays. She crocheted throws for family and friends, and was also known for her crocheted clothes hangers that she gifted to many.

Mary is preceded in death by husband Darrell; her parents; sister Mildred Wilder, brothers Jack Rateliff and Tommy Rateliff. She is survived by children Ray and Jackie (Shanks) Lumry of San Angelo, TX; Sue (Lumry) and Greg Martin of Odessa, TX; Mike and Debbie (Woods) Lumry of Harrah, OK, and Terri (Lumry) and Bob Wilkerson of Midwest City, OK, as well as a bevy of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by special friends RJ and Chrissy Stokes and their children and grandchild.

Special thanks to the wonderful staffs of Arbor House Midwest City and Choice Hospice for their care and affection for Mary and our family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Eastern Oklahoma County Resource Center or City Rescue Mission, two organizations that Mary supported.
