Sheryl "Sherry" Lynn Ziegler Obituary

Sheryl Lynn Ziegler (Sherry), 66, of Sykesville, MD passed away on October 14, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 1, 1957 in Shirley, MA she was the daughter of Shirley Rothschild and the late Theodore Johnson. Sherry was the beloved wife of 45 years to Robert Ziegler, Jr.

Sherry was an extraordinarily devoted mother not only encouraging her daughters in each and every activity they chose but also becoming an integral part of the supporting groups to ensure they and their peers/colleagues felt lovingly supported. She knew all of the sports and band cheers when her girls were young and would often be caught chanting them on the way home from games and tournaments. Sherry loved being “Nana” to her grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed spending countless hours playing games, reading, and crafting with them. She was passionate about knowing their latest interests and current activities, traveling to support them at every opportunity. She never missed the chance to love on each family’s non-human companions.

Sherry could often be found behind a sewing machine creating a new, one-of-a-kind, project which was almost always a gift for a family member or friend. She has sewn and quilted hundreds of items ranging from beautifully embroidered tops and cozy baby “taggie” blankets to intricate costumes and elaborate, colorful quilts. Anyone receiving one of her creations also gained a heaping helping of her love and genuine kindness. She was a proud member of Everybody’s Quilt Guild and cherished the incredible bonds she made through the organization. Sherry and her family are especially grateful for the sisterhood of her Farm Girls.

Utilizing her knack for numbers, personal relationships, and attention to detail, her career lead her from a small savings and loan and small business accounting through the banking industry with Bank of America and customer service with Penguin Random House. In each of her roles, her colleagues were blessed with Sherry’s innate gift to connect and spread joy.

Sherry was always one to offer help and make time for anyone who crossed her path. She will be remembered for her deep love of family and friends, her soothing, gentle nature, and looking on the bright side of any and everything.

In addition to her husband, Sherry is survived by her daughters, Christina Burroughs and husband Todd of Leonardtown, Becka Hazelip and husband Jim of Manchester, her nephew, William Michael Ziegler and wife Nikki of Hopkinsville, her grandchildren Audrey and Caroline Burroughs of Leonardtown, and her siblings Theodore Johnson of Conway and Holly Brooke and husband David of Conway.

The family will welcome friends on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 11am to 1pm at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, MD. A funeral service will follow beginning at 1:00pm with Chaplain Susan Donham officiating. The family asks that those attending services honor Sherry by wearing her favorite color, purple.

In lieu of flowers, please consider joining her family in raising money for Pancreatic Cancer research through PanCAN PurpleStride. http://support.pancan.org/goto/Sew_Purple
