Obituary
Wilda Pauline McCann, daughter of Oscar B. and Olive L. Carson Weaklend, was born April 13, 1923, in Osceola, Iowa, and passed from this life Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines at 94 years of age. She was united in marriage to William Mathew McCann on May 14, 1946, in Osceola, Iowa, and three children, Marcia, Marvin, and Maurice blessed this union. Wilda was a kind, loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Wilda received her early education in Woodburn Schools and attended Osceola Junior College. She went on to teach in rural schools and took a reprieve to raise her family. Wilda later earned her Bachelor's Degree at Drake University, enabling her to return to her passion for teaching elementary students at Clarke Community Schools until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Herndon-Oehlert American Legion Auxiliary in Woodburn; was an active participant in the Clarke Area Retired Staff and Personnel Association (CARSPA) and belonged to the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) and Clarke Community Education Association (CCEA). Working in her flower beds and watching sports on TV, especially ISU Basketball, were some of her favorite pastimes. Gathering family together and preparing holiday meals were among her greatest enjoyments. Relatives preceding Wilda in death were her parents, Oscar B. and Olive L. Weaklend, husband, William M. McCann, son, Maurice McCann, sister, Norma Estell and her husband Phil. Wilda leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Marcia (David) Madsen of Des Moines, IA; son, Marvin (Kayleen) McCann of Osceola, IA; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family for a tribute to be decided at a later date.
