Obituary

Richard Stanfill passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 18th, 2024.

Richard was born at Fort Belvoir military hospital on April 9th, 1983.

As a military son, Richard accompanied his family to multiple assignments both

stateside and abroad. These experiences instilled a great pride in our

country and military.

Richard met and made many lifelong friends in Northern Virginia;

graduating from West Springfield High School in 2001. During his senior

year, Richard and the West Springfield H.S. soccer team won the Virginia

State Soccer Championship. He graduated from Virginia Tech where he

became a committed and dedicated member of the Lot 8 Hokies Tailgate

crew; building some of his life’s most influential relationships.

Richard had many joys in life - Manchester United, any kind of music,

Hokie football - but the greatest joy was his family. While at Virginia Tech,

Richard met the love of his life, Megan Hailey. They married in the

Richmond, VA area, worked in New York City while living in Hoboken, NJ,

and eventually established a family home in Northern Virginia with their

daughter, Isabella (Bella). Together they formed a harmonious partnership,

supporting each other in multiple challenges and as a family of faith. Each

of them brought the best out of each other while upholding Richard’s

favorite quote “Love the life you live. Live the life you love.”

Richard is survived by his wife, Megan, and their daughter, Bella. He is

also survived by his parents Ronnie and Nancy Stanfill (Fairfax, VA), his

sisters Bertha Stanfill (Vashon, Washington) and Heidi von Buhr (Denver,

Colorado), brother-in-law, Mike von Buhr, and nieces and nephews (Brian,

Victoria, Conrad, Nicholas von Buhr).

Richard was known for his infectious joy for life and ability to make friends

with anyone. He expected the best of himself and those around him. He

was an exceptional Hokie and a faithful friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
