Ocie Lee Brown Obituary

The beautiful Ocie Lee Brown was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Ocie was the seventh of thirteen children born on February 21, 1949, in Gough, Georgia to loving parents, the late Jimmy Lovett Sr. and Adeline Lovett. Ocie relocated to Boston, MA in 1964 where she married Phinazee Brown Sr. and had four children Eric Brown Sr., Shawn Brown, the late Patricia Brown, and the late Phinazee (Buddy) Brown. Ocie lived a full and impactful life before departing this world peacefully in her sleep on October 14, 2024, at home with her family in Brockton, MA.

Ocie’s remarkable journey started in the classrooms of Gough Junior High School and later flourished with a GED from Codman Square Academy. Her career was marked by a deep commitment to community, working with love at Ashburn Place and contributing to the warmth of Home Day Care in Hyde Park, MA. She found immense joy in her role at the Boys & Girls Club in Dorchester, MA, where she inspired countless young individuals to dream big and achieve their goals.

Ocie held a strong faith and was actively involved in her church community. She began her spiritual journey at the Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church in Waynesboro, GA. Ocie was known for her angelic voice and used her gift to praise the lord. Ocie was a choir member and later served as a Deacon at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Boston, MA, where her kindness and wisdom touched many hearts.

Ocie was a quintessential family matriarch. Her generosity and selflessness were legendary; she often proclaimed, "I don't have much, but I’ll give you what I have." What she had to give was immeasurable—her love, her nurturing spirit, and her delicious cooking (her famous pound cake will be greatly missed by all). Every hug, every meal shared, and every encouraging word reflected her kind spirit.

Those who knew Ocie remember her as a woman of service, possessing a spiritual and gentle soul that drew people to her. She exemplified love in all forms, making everyone feel special and cherished in her presence. So much so, that many others affectionately called her mom outside of her immediate family.

Today, we honor Ocie's memory as we reflect on her life filled with love and devotion. She often said, "I love you one more time than you love me," and we repeat those words back to her, grateful for the countless ways she loved us.

Thank you, Ocie Lee, for every moment you've graced our lives. Your spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts as we hold on to the love you gave so freely. Until we meet again.

Ocie was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Lovett Sr., mother, Adeline Lovett, daughter, Patricia Brown, son, Phinazee (Buddy) Brown, brother, Robert Brown Sr.

Ocie leaves to cherish all of her memories and her legacy to her children: Eric Brown Sr. (Shawanda), Shawn Brown of Boston, MA, Curtis Gordon of Tampa, FL, 12 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild, her siblings, Gaynell (Lizza) Farmer of Waynesboro, GA, Annette Osborne of Blythe, GA, Tommy Brown(Carrie) of Mattapan, MA, Jimmy Lovett Jr. (Alberta) of Keysville, GA, Ethel McBride (Leotis) of Waynesboro, GA, Willie Lovett (Ernestine) of Waynesboro, GA, Dorothy Jackson (Ricky) of Beech Island, South Carolina, John Lovett (Glenda) of Evans, GA, Joseph Lovett (Cheryl) of Augusta, GA, sister in law, Mattie Brown of Boston, MA, and best friend Pinkie Clay of Boston, MA. Ocie's family extended further through a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and a host of family, church family, and friends who will miss her dearly. Each person held a special place in her heart and took joy in her love and wisdom.
