Aaron Samuel "Sam" Daniels, a lifelong resident of Eufaula, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on October 14, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on May 15, 1932 to Lee and Theresa Daniels, Sam dedicated his life to uplifting his community and making a global impact through his tireless advocacy and service.
Despite facing the challenges of his time, Sam was a beacon of hope and change. During his middle school attendance, he left school to assist his mother with the farm. He later returned at age 65 to Wallace Community College to earn his GED, and went on to attend Auburn University, where he obtained several certificates in Agriculture, Forestry, and Farming. For over 20 years, he worked as a master welder at American Building Company while also owning and operating Daniels Logging, and farming over 100 acres.
As a lifelong advocate for Black farmers, Sam was a member of the National Black Farmers Association and marched in Washington, D.C. for the historic 1999 settlement. In 2022, the 100 Black Men organization of Atlanta recognized his steadfast support of their Summer Success Program, where his team taught valuable skills in organic gardening and canning. His legacy lives on through his children’s various entrepreneurial endeavors and Soigne’ Circle Farms, LLC.
Sam was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church founded by his grandfather, Reverend Judge Daniels, who also was the founder of Union Grove and Sandville Baptist Church. As an ordained Deacon, he was the first to open the church and the last to leave the church for over sixty years. He became the Chairman of the Deacon Board where his advocacy for change continued. Under his auspices Mount Olive Baptist Church left the National Baptist Convention of America International and became a full gospel assemble. The church was restructured. The deacons became known as “Elite Men” and Sam was in the tribe of Judah.
In 1957, Sam married Mary Wilson Daniels, and together they raised twelve children in a household built on strong principles. However, Sam's oldest son, the late Emmit Brown, was born before he met and married Mary. Sam continued his father's entrepreneurial legacy and encouraged his children to pursue business ownership. During his lifetime, 85% of his children owned their businesses.
Sam is remembered not only as a community leader and innovator, but also as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary Daniels; his sister Lula McCullough; his brother, Richard Daniels; and his twelve children: Gregory Daniels (Paula), Christopher Daniels (Sarah), Dennis Daniels (Shaquetta), Anquinette Jones (Harvey), Vic Daniels (Tarus), Aaron Daniels, Jr, Scotty Daniels (June), Warren Daniels, Ray Daniels, April Hudspeth, Tammia Daniels, and Ammita Daniels. Sam also leaves behind over sixty grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and many others.
