Patricia Anne Koosey Obituary

Patricia Anne Koosey (nee Lambert)

February 5, 1938 – October 14, 2024

Patricia was born in Grimshaw, AB, in the Peace River country. Her father, a rancher and saddle bronc rider, left when she was about 12 years old. She kept a relationship with her father and saw him intermittently over the years but always appreciated their time together. Pat and her mother moved in with her Grandmother at her farm. Pat really loved living with her grandmother. She learned a lot from her, including a strong work ethic, and modelled her life and values after her dear grandmother. Pat was able to raise cattle and sell them while in school, and from her savings she bought her mother a small house at the mere age of 15.

After attending nursing school in Vegreville and her LPN practicum at the Alberta Hospital in Ponoka, she married Bob Dressler who worked in the oil patch. They first lived in Drayton Valley where their daughter, Shan was born, and then moved to Red Deer, where their son, Kelly was born. Sherwood Park was their next home where Pat took up nursing at a hospital and then at a doctor’s clinic for many years where she managed patients, gave needles, took x-rays.

After living in the country in Carstairs and then the Dalroy area, they divorced. Patricia stayed at the farm and became good friends with Adolph Koosey in the training of his horse. They fell in love and were married on September 25th, 1982. Together, they further built up both of their farms and developed a great working partnership and a flourishing relationship. With a love for all animals, especially horses, Patricia and Adolph continued their passion by joining the Windy Ridge Mounted Colour Party around 1997. For 26+ years they enjoyed numerous trail rides and camping trips with this group in Messa Bute and participated in countless parades, including the Calgary Stampede Parade every year, regularly claiming first prize among the colour mounted parties, which was no small feat.

They also enjoyed travel and took trips to Hawaii, Ireland, Mexico, Morrocco, Australia and New Zealand. Drove their motorhome across Canada, to Alaska and took their horses with them to Arizona, riding along the way. They cruised to Spain and Portugal as well as through the Panama Canal and to several other places.

Pat is survived by her husband, Adolph Koosey; sister, Heather Ryan; daughter, Shan Pletcher; son, Kelly Dressler; adopted son, Todd; and daughter-in-law, Cookie Koosey; grandchildren, Cally (Steve) Monnery, Jesse and Jacklin Pletcher and Tyler Koosey; and great grandchildren, Coen and Braylie Monnery. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Patrick Lambert, and adopted son, Brad.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in Pat’s memory to Cancer Research Society would be appreciated.
