Lillie Mae Smith, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 14, 2024, in Livonia, Michigan, one day after celebrating her 77th birthday. Born on October 13, 1947, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, Lillie's life was a tapestry of dedication, service, and joy that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Lillie's journey began in the warmth of a close-knit family, as the cherished daughter of the late Rev. Monroe Evans Sr., and Cora Evans. She was a loving sister to Annie (Harvey) Madden and Ella Collins, all of whom preceded her in death, as well as to her surviving siblings, Julia McDaniels and Monroe Evans Jr. Her family grew through her marriage to Oscar Smith, Sr., ex-husband whom she said was the love of her life. From this union three children were born: Taresa Smith, Tamiko Smith, and the late Oscar Smith Jr. Lillie's legacy of love continues through her adoring grandchildren, Corey (Carly) Smith, and great-grandson, Torey Ethan Smith, as well as through the extended family of the Martins and Crystal (Carl) Harvey, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers who will forever cherish her memory.
Lillie's commitment to personal growth and education was evident when she graduated from Eastern High School, now known as Martin Luther King Senior High School, in January 1967. Her thirst for knowledge led her to further her studies in psychology at Wayne County Community College and Oakland County Community College in the 1990s, where she excelled and made the Dean's List.
Her professional life was marked by a series of accomplishments, beginning in the early 1980s when Lillie started her career in the financial field. She joined Charge Card Association as a Card Service Specialist, which later became NBD Bank and Banc One. Her career path also included roles as a Baker at C'est Si Bon Bakery, a Sales Associate at Lord & Taylor, a Card Service Specialist at Michigan First Credit Union, and a beloved Food Demonstrator at Club Demonstration Services inside of Costco Wholesale, where she enjoyed preparing and serving samples to members.
Lillie's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and lived a life that echoed her faith-filled spirit. She was a loving, diligent, and doting mother and grandmother, always beaming with pride over her family's accomplishments. Lillie's thoughtful nature extended beyond her family as she shared her love of cooking southern-style meals with friends and relatives. She found great joy in preparing desserts and imparting cooking tips, creating a legacy of culinary delights that will be remembered and savored.
Described by many as loving, faithful, and thoughtful, Lillie Mae Smith's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of the human spirit. Her memory will be cherished, and her presence deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
