On October 14, 2024, Mary Batson Moore went to be with the Lord. She was born on May 24, 1942, in Washington D.C., to James Gordon Batson and Madolyn Stanley Batson. She attended Mary Washington College and married the late William “Bill” Jasper Moore on December 22, 1962. Mary is survived by her three children, Patricia (Robert) Peterson of Rockville, MD, Scott (Debra) Moore and Jennifer Moore of Glen Allen, VA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Luke (Kristen) Peterson, Erin and Alton Jasper II “AJ” Moore and Dylan and Maddox Palmer. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Betty (Robert) Allen and Lynn (Jake) Sanchez; and sister-in-law, Eugenia Walter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her four-legged family member, Dorothy. 

Both being D.C. natives, Mary and Bill were longtime fans of the Washington Redskins and were also avid golfers and travelers. Mary was a woman of strong faith and was active at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Short Pump, working as church secretary and volunteering in children’s Sunday school. Her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, meant the world to her, and all who knew her will remember her kind heart.

Family will receive friends, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2024, at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, VA. A celebration of her life will take place 12 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 4825 Pouncey Tract Rd., Glen Allen, VA, with a reception to follow.
