Richard Allen Backler

Richard Allen Backler passed away unexpectedly September 29, 2024. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Richard was born at Waukesha Memorial Hospital on November 22, 1946 and lived in Waukesha most of his life. He attended Waukesha South High School until he volunteered for military service, where he received his diploma. After his service in the U.S. Army, he worked as a Pattern Maker in the Waukesha area and raised two sons with Carol Backler. He was an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed racing cars in his early days. He also spent much time watching and attending race events with his family and friends. He loved to travel, even more than racing, accepting any invitations to take a trip.
Richard resided in Fond du Lac with his significant other, Barb Schuppe, for several years prior to his death. He enjoyed spending time up north at his home in Laona with Barb and any family or friends available, as well as escaping Wisconsin winters by traveling to warmer states.
In addition to Barb, Richard is survived by his two sons, Patrick and Sean; grandsons Nicholas, Justin and Joshua; granddaughter Lacey; great granddaughter Amelianna ; Barb’s daughter Kristin (Jeff) Loomans; her grandson Tyler (Angela) Schuppe; and her six greatgrandchildren. He is further survived by his sister Verna (Doug) Hensiak and brother Tom (Martha Heltsley) Backler, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Beatrice Mary (Maddison) Backler and his beloved grandfather, Thomas Maddison.
A celebration of Richard’s life will take place at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 380 Bluemound Road, Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Richard will be laid to rest on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee.
