Garrett Dean Maybin Obituary

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Garrett Maybin on October 14, 2024, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Born on September 17, 2000 to Patrick Maybin and Mindy Ponder, Garrett was a devoted son, a loving brother and loyal best friend.  His kind and gentle spirit will be

tremendously missed by all. For all of time, Garrett’s loved ones will fondly remember his beautiful trademark smile, his quick wit and his eagerness to lend a helping hand. He was loyal to a fault and loved his family and friends unconditionally.

All who knew Garrett knew of his lifelong passion for adventure, which he expressed on a dirt bike track from a very young age.  Even before he was old enough to walk, Garrett fell in love with all things motorized.. motorcycles, 4-wheelers, and of course, trucks.

He was an animal lover, cherishing his dog companions his whole life

Garrett was preceded in death by: his mother, Mindy Ponder;  maternal grandmother, Janet Ponder; and paternal grandfather, Monroe Maybin.

In addition to his father, Patrick Maybin, Garrett is survived by his brother Grant Maybin (Lacy); stepmother Erin Franz & stepbrother Leland Henderson (Topanga); grandmother Charlotte Joines; grandmother Joann Turner; grandfather Ronnie Ponder; uncles: Jeff Crain and Chris Ponder; aunts: Marlo Maybin, Lori Ponder, Candi Guffey (Josh) and Missy Young (JR). Garrett is also survived by his Godparents Keith Bond and Cathy Ponder; numerous cousins; his beloved family of friends

A memorial service was held for Garrett’s family and friends to celebrate his life on Tuesday, October 22 at Little River Baptist Church in Penrose, NC. He was laid to rest next to his mother, reunited in eternal peace. May our sudden loss of our Garrett inspire others to embrace the beauty of life, for tomorrow is not promised.
