David K Smith, Sr. Obituary
David Kay Smith Sr. passed into God’s loving and eternal care on October 14th, 2024. David was a week shy of 95 years old!.
He was born, October 22,1929, in Riverside, NJ to the late Richard Horace Smith (1879-1943) and Helen Kay (Millen) Smith (1892 – 1989). David was married to Ellen Van Sciver on September 6th, 1952, for 70+ wonderful years. They lived in Edgewater Park, NJ, Burlington, NJ and Columbus, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen Smith, infant son baby boy Smith and his brother Richard H. Smith. Also, his son-in-law Steven Moore.
David was employed at Hercules Inc. in Burlington for 25 years and retired from Allied Chemical after 16 years as a Maintenance & Construction Planner/Supervisor. After retirement he volunteered at area nursing homes and as a docent on the Battleship of New Jersey from 2001-2009.
He was a US Navy Veteran and served before and during the Korean War.
David enjoyed gardening and sharing his crops, especially tomatoes. He loved traveling with Ellen, bible study, the Dallas Cowboys, and the LA Dodgers (from back when they were the Brooklyn Dodgers). He loved watching his grandchildren and great- grandchildren play sports. He loved to show off pictures of his family and printed out each and every one! He always enjoyed his family and friends and their company.
David is survived by his three children Susan (Steven) Moore, Sally (Anthony) DiGia, and David (Oni); 6 grandchildren, Kristin (James) Mederos, Jeremy (Laura) Moore, Gregory (Danielle) Mower, Holly Moore, Jorja Smith and Wyatt Smith; 5 great-grandchildren, Cole Mederos, Jace Mederos, and Trey Mederos (Kristin), Josephine Moore (Jeremy) and Rowan Moore (Holly).
A viewing for David will be held at Page’s Funeral Home 302 East Union Street, Burlington, NJ 08016 on Thursday, October 24th at 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM. Service will immediately follow at 10:30 AM.
Interment will be in Beverly National Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Page Funeral Home, Burlington.
