Wesley William Hawkings Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wesley “Wes” William Hawkings, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, who left us unexpectedly on October 14, 2024 at the age of 66.

Wes was born in Bentley, Alberta, the youngest child of Ernest and Margaret Hawkings and brother to Bernice, Joan, Joyce, Robert, Irvin, and Francis. Wes grew up on a farm west of Bentley where he worked hard alongside his siblings to contribute and support the large family.

Throughout his life, Wes was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He often shared stories of his early years as a plumber and pipefitter, before stepping into his role as a maintenance supervisor at Joffre. All the while, he managed the demands of running a family farm, balancing it all with pride.

Wes’s greatest passion was always his family. He shared his love of fishing, camping, and farming with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will last a lifetime. He had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed traveling, hiking, hunting, and exploring all the beauty the world has to offer. He enjoyed curling and golfing, and was dedicated to the leagues that he was a part of.

Wes will forever be remembered for his unwavering generosity and deep devotion to his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, no matter the circumstances, with patience, wisdom, and a genuine desire to support those around him. His selflessness and kindness will leave a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Wesley is survived by his beloved children, Ryan Hawkings (Rikki Matthews), Jillene Linsley (David Linsley), and Richel Hawkings (Brandon Vachon); his cherished grandchildren, Cohen and Rylee, Grady and Nolan, Zoe and Camryn. He had so much love to give, and was affectionately known as "Grandpa" to others as well.  Also left to mourn are his siblings, numerous extended family and many dear friends.

Wesley is predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Margaret Hawkings.

A Celebration of Wes’s Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25th, 2024 at the Blindman Valley Agricultural Centre, 5202 53 Street Close, Bentley, AB.
