Dorothy M. Sledz, 94, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024. She was born February 17, 1930, in Chicago IL to Mary (Filipowski) and Stanley Augustyn. Proceeded in death by siblings Robert Augustyn and Marilyn (Ron) Miloch. Survived by brother Richard (Sue). Beloved wife of the late Daniel M. Sledz. She is survived by her loving children: Daniel A. (Kathleen), Debra A. (Doug) Harrison, David R. (Melissa) and Duane R. (Constance); her cherished grandchildren: David (Haley) Harrison, Danielle (Tony) Lewis, Ashley (George) Althaus, Austin (Brianna) Sledz, Daniel, Matthew, Kaitlin, Alexandra (Jacob) Harris, Taylor, and Emily (Aaron) Mitchell; and great grandchildren: Theodore, Graham, Emery, Amaya and Myles, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Dorothy Mae Augustyn was married on May 30, 1953, to Daniel Marion Sledzianowski (later shortened to Sledz). In 1955 they started a family and were blessed with twins! Daniel Alan & Debra Ann. In 1957 David Richard was born, and eight years later they completed the 6 D’s with the birth of Duane Robert in 1965.
They lived in Chicago until 1960 when they bought their first home in Glenview. In 1978 they moved to their dream home on 3-1/2 acres in the Village of Kildeer where she would live for 42 years.
In January of 1971, her husband Daniel started his own Certified Public Accounting firm where she supported Dan with all the administrative work while also raising the family. 1987 brought more challenges that Dorothy embraced without hesitation. While still being administrative support to the family business as well as homemaker, she took on the role of caretaker to her husband for dialysis and kidney failure which Dan eventually succumbed to on September 23, 2007.
In addition to her many roles, Dorothy still found time for reading, crossword puzzles and many, many friendships. Her biggest passion, besides being “G-ma” to her ten grandchildren and “Gigi” to her five great grandchildren, was her writing. Shortly after Dan’s passing Dorothy joined the Lake Zurich Writers Club. Here is where she became inspired to write her own book of her life and favorite memories. This took several years, and she learned the use of a laptop along the way. Eventually, the book was hardbound: All That I Remember and then Some. Her children hosted a book signing party with family and friends where she signed each with a personal note.
In 2020 Dorothy took ill and became hospitalized. She was eventually transferred to the Oaks of Bartlett for rehab and ultimately residence into their Skilled Nursing Facility. Dorothy entered Eternal Life on October 14, 2024.
Dorothy (Mom) will be dearly missed! She will be remembered for her wittiness, kindness, love, countless thoughts & endless prayers. Her 94+ year life was truly well lived…with enough memories for a sequel to the first book!
