Norma Jane (Fosshage) Baker Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Norma Jane (Fosshage) Baker was reunited with her husband and two daughters in heaven on Monday, October 14, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born on February 6, 1933, in the farmhouse which her great-grandparents built in Blue Mounds Township and where she spent the first 18 years of her life. She was the third child and first born of twins, to John and Irene (Lingard) Fosshage. She attended Mount Horeb Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated with the class of 1951.

Following graduation, Norma was employed by Dr. M. T. Morrison as a doctor's assistant before her marriage. On February 20, 1954, she married her best friend and love of her life, Elmer C. Baker, in Mount Horeb at Evangelical Lutheran Church. Following their wedding they took a trip to Key West, Fla., to visit her uncle, Norman Lingard. They returned home to Progressive Dairy Farm where they farmed together and raised registered Holsteins and their six children. In 1982 she returned to school and graduated from Madison Business College with a bachelor’s degree in general business management.

Norma was a member of Springdale Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, served as financial secretary for many years and was very active in the women’s organization holding every office at some time. She was also in charge of funeral luncheons at the church for many years. She served on the Board of Directors to bring the medical clinic to Mount Horeb, served as clerk of Springdale Township for a short period of time and was active on the Women’s Milk Marketing groups. Along with her husband, they were lifetime members of the local, state and national FFA Alumni Association.

Norma enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved decorating for all holidays and collecting anything that had an owl on it. Her greatest joy was watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in all their school sports and musical activities. She was also the main caregiver for her husband for many years while he battled with Parkinsons disease.

Norma is survived by her remaining children, Sally (Wayne) Faust of Colorado, Cindy (Chris) Hanson of Mount Horeb, Julie (Bryan) McVeigh of Michigan, AJ Baker (Larissa Markley) of Janesville; son-in-law, Duane (Lynne) Hustad of New Glarus; brother-in-law, Werner Eugster of Kansas; grandchildren, Sara (Kurt) Hendrickson, Brenda (Matt) Schmitt, Tony Hustad, Stephen (Lindsay) Faust, Paul (Jenn) Faust, Crystal (Theo) Davis, Jennifer (Matt) Smillie, Matthew (Donna) Mani, Mike (Sarah) Mani, Peter (Tanya) Docken, Jessica Docken, Samantha McVeigh, Patrick McVeigh, Valerie (Mike) Hanson-Stitt, Ashley Hanson (Mike Sullivan), Matt (Luanne) Brusveen, Karen (Israel) Rivera, Jenny Huebner, Jon Huebner and Hayleigh Markley; and great-grandchildren, Abby, Nathan, Brayden, Allison, Theo, Carter, Ziva, Aaron, Natalie, Anna, Joshua, Bodie, Eisley, Emery, Breck, Lucia, Shiloh, Chase, Kennedi, Kaiden, Bryson, Curtis, Laina, Madysen, Maverick, Breanna, Aleena, and Iria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Elmer (2018); two daughters, Sonia Hustad (1992) and Susan Docken (2018); her twin brother, Neal (2012); brother, Lyle (2013); sisters, Carol (2017) and Vergenne (2020); two sisters-in-law, Audrey and Betty Fosshage; and a son-in-law, Fritz Mani (2016).
