Sandra Plourde Obituary

Houlton - Sandra Plourde passed away on October 14, 2024, at the age of 78, in Houlton, Maine. Born on March 17, 1946, Sandra's life was marked by her spicynice, forthright personality and her dedication to her family and her work.

Sandra made a significant impact through her career at RSU 29, where she served as secretary to the guidance counselors there, mainly at Houlton High School. Known for her straightforwardness (whether you wanted it or not), often accompanied by a touch of tenderness and humor, she was a cherished and sometimes feared figure among students and colleagues alike. Her supportive nature and willingness to provide both comfort and candid advice left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Sandra was a devoted wife to her husband, Lucien Plourde, and a fiercely protective and loving mother to all of us that she claimed as her children. Susanne (Jonathan) White and Michael (Sarah) Roy will miss her dearly and remember the steady presence and kind heart. She showed up for us every day. She enthusiastically embraced her role as not-so-evil stepmother to Joe (Tina) Plourde and Bruce (Cath) Plourde. Her brother Carl (Debbie) Stover, and her absolutely beloved, beautiful and perfect in every way grandchildren Noah, Eva, and Cooper White; Emma and Alex Roy; Grayson and Joey Plourde; and Daniel and Nia Plourde will cherish her memory.

Perhaps the most grief-stricken by her passing is the scurry of squirrels that she hand-fed daily at her home. Generations of them have shared the lore that Sandra’s home was the perfect place that a squirrel down on his luck could come for a meal or a lifetime. Dodging a crazy lady in a nightgown trying to pet them and ‘bring them inside out of the cold for a minute’ was a small price to pay for a full belly. They have been informed that their days of being offered an endless buffet and the occasional grope are done, no matter how much they beg for either. Bereft and on their own now, they can still be seen flinging themselves loudly at the garage doors trying to get her attention.

A funeral service to celebrate Sandra's life will be held on November 9, 2024 at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St in Houlton, Maine. Guests may arrive starting at noon for the 1 PM service. Following the service, a gathering for remembrance and fellowship will take place at The Elm Tree Diner, 146 Bangor Street, Houlton. In true Sandra spirit, guests are encouraged to bring laughter and fond memories only to this event, as funerals and sad people gave her hives.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite animal rescue organization reflecting Sandra's love for animals. To share memories and condolences please visit www.bowersfuneral.com
