In Loving Memory of
Mrs. Wilma Ruth Parsons Gayler
July 14, 1938 – October 14, 2024
With hearts full of love and memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Wilma Ruth Parsons Gayler, age 86, of Rome, Georgia, on Monday, October 14, 2024. Born on July 14, 1938, in Whitfield County, Georgia, Wilma was the cherished daughter of the late Alvin David Parsons and Estelle Prissilla Parsons. Her life was one marked by dedication to family, a heart full of kindness, and a love for the simple joys that filled her days.
In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Bobby Gayler, whose partnership in life was a source of comfort and strength. She was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Joann Bennett, and her precious granddaughter, Jennifer Bennett, whose memories Wilma carried in her heart until her final days. Their reunion is one of the small comforts we hold onto during this time of loss.
Wilma is survived by her loving daughter, Kathy Haggard, who was a constant in her life. Her grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart, include Amy, Jonathan, Joseph, Amanda, Nikki, Pam, Kristin, Kimberly, Courtney, and Emily. Wilma’s close relationship with her twin sister, Barbara Sue Durham, was another enduring bond that brought her great joy throughout her life, as well as 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren she adored. Also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Jewell Gayler, they had a special bond, she will deeply miss her.
Wilma’s life was a testament to the beauty of the everyday moments. As a dedicated homemaker, her home was a place where family and love always came first. She had a passion for cooking, and her family fondly remembers the joy of gathering around her table for meals, especially during the holidays when she delighted in preparing festive dinners that brought everyone together. Her home was a haven of warmth and welcome, where the smell of delicious food and the sounds of laughter always seemed to linger.
One of Wilma's favorite pastimes was playing bingo with her neighbors, who had become like family to her over the years. Friday bingo nights were filled with laughter, friendly competition, and the camaraderie that she cherished. She also enjoyed spending afternoons browsing through antique malls, where she delighted in discovering treasures that spoke to her love of history and the charm of bygone eras.
Wilma had a unique way of making everyone around her feel special, and her presence will be deeply missed. While her passing leaves an empty place in our hearts, her spirit will live on through the love, laughter, and memories she created with her family and friends.
A graveside service to honor Wilma’s life will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The pallbearers will be Jody Steelman, Adam Cook, Matt Taylor, Colin Striplin, David Striplin and Billy Lovitt, who had the honor of walking alongside her in life and now have the privilege of carrying her to her final resting place.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Harborview and Traditions Hospice.
