Angie Yvette Richardson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully fell asleep on October 14, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. She had just turned 64. Born in Alexandria, VA, on October 11, 1960, Angie was the second of three daughters born to Alex and Sue Smalls. She grew up in a loving and supportive household and graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham, MD, in 1978.
On June 13, 1981, Angie married the love of her life, Whitfield Richardson, Sr. Together, they built a beautiful family. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Whitfield, Jr., born in November 1982, and Whitney, born in June 1992. Like her mother, Sue, Angie was affectionally referred to as ‘Nannie’ by her own grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Angie’s family was the center of her world, and her door was always the one you could knock on to get a plate or some sweet treat she had just baked. She had a passion for cooking, spending her days collecting recipes, planning menus and family gatherings that became cherished memories for all who attended.
Angie dedicated nearly 20 years of her life working as a health support aid at the Galax Training Center, where she provided compassionate care for those with special needs.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Alex and Sue Smalls, and her precious granddaughter, Nylah, who she held close in her heart.
Angie leaves behind her devoted husband of 44 years, Whitfield Richardson, Sr., her children, Whitfield, Jr., and Whitney, and her adored grandchildren, Neriah, Makari, and a new, cherished grandson due to arrive in December. She is also survived by her two sisters, Gail (Tony) Dingle and Crystal (Albert) Gonzalez, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless cherished friends, including Davida Jackson.
A celebration of Angie’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, beginning at 2:00pm with Dionne Tucker officiating. A visitation will occur one hour prior to the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. Friends and family will gather to honor her beautiful spirit and the love she spread throughout her lifetime. Burial will follow in the Old Town Cemetery in Galax, VA.
