Clifford Bogus Obituary

Clifford Van Bogus was born December 31, 1953 in Brunswick, GA. He was educated in the Ware County School System and graduated from Waycross High School in 1973. He was a Member of the band and also played football for the Waycross High Bulldogs. He attended Albany State College and served in the Unted States Army Special Forces. He was also a former employee of the Waycross RYDC, Carolina Skiff, and Champion International. He was affectionately nicknamed "Cently" and "Flat Tire" by family and friends. Van was also a forever Cleveland Browns fan. He accepted Christ at an early age and faithfully attended Church of Christ Written in Heaven, located at 617 Blackwell Street in Waycross, where he sang in the choir and even served as a lead soloist. Later, he transferred his membership to Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Van departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2024.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Delores Poller Jones, and Clifford Bogus, as well as his grandparents, Bishop Calvin and Idella Poller, and Willie Sr. and Eddie Mae Jones.


Cherishing his memory are his devoted wife of 26 years, Henriann “Tina” Johnson Bogus; his children, Clifford Shannon Bogus of Atlanta, GA, Christopher Johnson (Violeta) of Charleston, SC, Ashley Stanford (Devin), and Tashon Tomlin (Madison) of Broxton, GA; and his grandchildren, Nay'Quaria, Jakaria, Czareah, Semaj, Alejandra, and Madilyn. He is also remembered by his great-grandchildren, Aiden, Zakariah, Czane, Cza'Novah, and Beautiful. His surviving siblings include his brother, Barry Jones (Ultrelle) of Waycross, and sisters, Gwendolyn Brown, Cherry B. Thompson, and Selena B. Smith, along with his niece, Keana Williams, of Virginia.


Special cousins who held a close place in his heart include Stuart Poller, Deneice Cole, Juanda Crawford, Robin Crawford, Melvin Crawford, Phyllis Poller, and Raymond Thomas. His dear friends and classmates, Rodney Bradley, Joe Simon, James “Chicken” Lewis, James Brown, and Jerome Menefee, also mourn his passing. Additionally, family friend and caretaker, Lorraine Wells, and a host of extended family members and friends will forever treasure his memory.
