Nicholas F. Karpp
Marion: With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nicholas F. Karpp, age 80, on October 14th 2024.
Nicholas was born February 29th, 1943 the youngest son of Mary and Nicholas Karpp. Nick grew up in Hamilton NY with his family on Madison Street. In his early years Nick looked up to his older brother Bob and was under the watchful eye of his older sister Nancy. He excelled in baseball and basketball during his high school years. In Nick's junior year he began dating Sandy Sacco. Nick and Sandy were high school sweethearts, which led to their lifelong journey together. After a few years of working Nick was drafted into the Army.
Nick served his country as an Army medic in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. While Nick was on leave visiting Sandy on Long Island they married. When Nick was stationed in Vietnam their son Ryan was born. Upon Nick’s return from Vietnam the young family first resided in Fairport where Nick started his career as an engineer for RG&E. After the family moved to Avon they welcomed Aaron, their second son. Nick’s transfer to work in RG&E’s Sodus office led the Karpps to Marion, NY, where their roots took hold. In 1982, their family was complete with the birth of Nicole, “Nick’s favorite daughter."
Throughout his life Nick enjoyed everything ‘outdoors’. Along with Sandy, they created a beautiful home and property. Nothing was beyond his capability, from planting trees, digging ponds, moving rocks, making trails, building horse barns and fences, and always gardening. We can’t forget his love for dogs, especially Biscuit and Eve. While Nick was out on the property he would always have his dog by his side. His retirement from RG&E in 2002 after 35 years of service gave Nick more time to do those things he loved. He always held family and friends close, and loved “his boys”, Ryan and Aaron. He was quick witted and quick to laugh, quick to offer or accept a beer and told the best stories (many about his own escapades). Even in retirement Nick had a strong connection with his RG&E family. He met his old crew for lunch once a month. One of Nick’s favorite places to go was The Candy Kitchen. Nick and Sandy have enjoyed knowing Mary and her family for over 50 years, especially those 35 pound rabbits!
Nick was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Nancy Karpp McMahon. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra Ann Sacco Karpp; brother Robert N.Karpp (Leslie) of MA; sons Ryan (Heidi) and Aaron Karpp (Julie); daughter Nicole Cole (Jeff Klopotowski); grandchildren Mckenzie, Logan, Lilyonna, Carly, Sklyar, Sydney and Sawyer; and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends and extended family.
