Mr. David Leon Carpenter, 90, of Franklin, NC, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024.  He was born November 26, 1933, in Rabun County, Georgia to the late Zeb an Alvie Ledford Carpenter.  Mr. Carpenter was a US Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a faithful member of Prentiss Church of God. He was owner and operator of Carpenter Garage for 65 years; he loved car shows, the Rod Run, racing and fishing. 

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vonore Murphy Carpenter, they were married January 5, 1954; four daughters, Gale Gribble, Lynn Wanner, Sandy Brendle and Rita Carpenter; four sons, Dale Carpenter, Ricky Carpenter, Ronnie "Junk" Carpenter and Stevie Carpenter; two sisters, Olivia Whitmore and Wanda Cabe; four brothers, Kenneth Carpenter, James Carpenter, Harold (Dawsey) Carpenter and Charles Carpenter; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Jean Carpenter; a brother, Edward Carpenter, and a great-granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Prentiss Church of God with Rev. Don Moffitt officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 till 2:00 pm prior to the service at the Church. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339.  Burial will be at Addington Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Matthew Gribble, Jacob Gribble, Michael Carpenter, David Carpenter. Dennis Carpenter and Mickey Carpenter.
