Donna L. Wright peacefully passed away at the age of 73 on October 14, 2024.
Donna was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on October 14, 1951, to Charles E. and Ovada (Buckner) Francisco. Donna is survived by her husband of 21 years, Bernie G. Wright, sister Rebecca (Jackie) Keller, children George (Lisa) Merz, Leo E. Merz, Monica Merz, and Laura (Kevin) Kline. She was lucky in extended and blended family; step-mother to Charles (Vicki) Merz, Mary Ann (Lee Spencer) Powell, and Brian (Jodie) Wright. Grandmother and great grandmother to many. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Leo B. Merz, and step-sons Jeff Wright and Steven (Deborah) Wright.
During her life Donna was devoted to her family, owned and operated her own small business, and worked in retail where she met many coworkers with whom she quickly became close friends. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed a Budweiser here and there, was no stranger to the area casinos, and enjoyed an occasional trip to the beaches of Gulf Shores. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed attempting to embarrass her children in their younger years by singing in public. Although she would never brag about it, she used to sing with a well-known band from Champaign, Illinois, before they were a household name. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her sense of humor and her raised eyebrow look that would stop anyone in their tracks. She will be greatly missed and fondly thought of by many.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood at 4 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m.
Memorials in Donna’s honor can be directed to Susan G. Komen.
