Norbert Martin Wallner (Nubs), aged 93, passed away on October 14, 2024, in Walsenburg, Colorado. Born on July 28, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Norbert dedicated much of his life to public service and community involvement.
Norbert proudly served in the Army from 1952 to 1954, demonstrating a commitment to his country during the post-war years. After his military service, he returned to his roots in West Milwaukee, where he served as a police officer until 1973. He later continued his career in law enforcement as a corrections officer in the Colorado State Corrections system, from which he retired, marking a distinguished career in public service.
A man of faith, Norbert was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael’s Parish in Canon City. His community spirit extended beyond his professional and religious life. He was an active member of the local Elks chapter, where, for many years, he coordinated the popular Elks Hoop Shoot competition. His volunteerism also included helping seniors with tax form preparation.
Norbert’s personal life was filled with joy and love, particularly for his family and his passions. He was a loving father and is survived by his children: Jeffrey Wallner of Tucson, Arizona; Gail (Terry) Rust of Montrose, Colorado; Susanne (Danny) Womack of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and Richard (Vicki) Wallner of La Junta, Colorado. His legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Carla and Kevin Rust; Will Womack; and Abby and Aimee Wallner. Norbert was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Constance (Connie) Wallner. An avid sports fan, Norbert held long-time season football tickets for the Air Force Fighting Falcons, and he loved traveling with family and friends, sharing many memorable adventures.
A memorial service will be held at Holt Funeral Home in Canon City on Friday, October 18th, at 1 p.m., followed by interment at Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice, honoring Norbert’s spirit of generosity and community service.
