Mr. Donald Grey Sparks, 87, died October 14, 2024, in Butner, North Carolina.  He was born July 10, 1937, in Surry County, a son, and one of eight children, to the late Benjamin Russell Sparks and Nancy Naomi Hawks Sparks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Allen Sparks; his sisters, Mary Faye Sparks, Alma Lucille Sparks Burleson, Norma Frances Sparks Shelton, Melba Rae Sparks Pearce, Clara Mae Sparks Welch and Pattie Elizabeth Sparks Dixon.

Donald had complications at birth that led to him having seizures.  The more seizures he had, the more brain damage was affected.  Donald was institutionalized when he was a teenager.  He accidentally caused a fire when an oil stove overturned in their home.  Their house burned to the ground.  Almost everyone in High Point helped to build them a new home.

Donald moved into The Murdoch Developmental Center when he was a teenager.  He had been living there the longest of any other resident ever.  The staff became part of his family, and he thrived under their loving care.  In spite of Donald's impairments, he was almost always compliant.  He was happy, gentle and had a loving nature.  The best word that comes to mind when I think of him is PURITY of soul.

A Graveside Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday 17, 2024, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Oakwood Cemetery in High Point.  Pastor Roger Carmichael will officiate.  The entombment will follow the service.
