Earnestine Scriven Schlueter – January 16, 1928 – October 14, 2024
Mother Earnestine Scriven Schlueter lived a blessed, victorious life surrounded by family and friends. Affectionately known as Grama Stine to everyone, she devoted her life to serving others. Earnestine was one of five children born to the late Isaac and Erma Faison in Crystal River, Florida. Understanding the importance of an education, her parents sent her to Nashville, TN where she attended a private Christian School and earned her diploma.
Before leaving home, she dedicated her life to the Lord and joined the Independent House of God the Church of the Living God the Pillar and Ground of the Truth. Earnestine was an active member of the church for more than 75 years. During her time of serving in the House of the Lord, she held the position of president of the usher board and the hospitality department. She did not play about the Lord’s house and the behavior in the church. Young and old alike had to put their gum in her napkin when she placed it under their chin. The children sat up straight in the front row. No playing, eating, or sleeping allowed. She loved the Lord and did not hesitate to travel throughout the U.S. to attend church services.
Just as she devoted herself to the church, she devoted herself to her family, her community, and her employers. Her love language was caring for others. Working as a caregiver and domestic engineer, she went above and beyond for the families who employed her. She became a valued member of their families. She made sure they knew every accomplishment of her children and grandchildren. When the opportunity presented itself, there was a face-to-face introduction so that everyone could put a name with a face. The community knew they could come to her house on the holidays and enjoy her cooking and baking. Her mixer and oven worked nonstop during the holidays. Just like Jesus used the five loaves and two fish, He used her pots and pans as well. No one was denied. There was always more than enough.
God blessed Earnestine and the late Louis Scriven’s union with eight children: Carolinda, Lewis, Lorenzo, Ernest, Erma, Melvin, Norman, and Edgar. Their legacy lives on through the 21 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and 27 great, great grandchildren they leave to cherish their memories. Earnestine was blessed to find love a second time and marry Gary Schlueter. Her brief marriage to Gary afforded her the opportunity to see parts of the world that she had not experienced in her youth. She loved to travel and meet people.
Earnestine was preceded in death by her children Carolinda Scriven Smith, Lorenzo, Ernest, and Norman Scriven; her siblings James Faison, Ruth Jenkins, and Martha Joyner; and her grandsons Isaac Hopkins and Devin Scriven. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy: sons - Lewis Scriven (Patricia), Melvin Scriven (Carither), and Edgar Scriven (Vera); daughter - Erma Summerlin (Larry); daughter-in-law Roseland Scriven; sister – Mother Mary Coleman; brother-in-law Ralph Joyner; favorite nieces – Angela Pearson and Sonya Little; goddaughters – Tenisha Rigby and Jamesha Walker; adopted grandson – Jaydon Bunch; and a plethora of adoring family and friends.
