William Michael Kent Obituary

William Michael Kent, known affectionately as Bill to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, in Cary, Illinois, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 13, 1950, in Highland Park, Illinois, Bill's life was marked by his boundless love, his exceptional skill as a mechanical extraordinaire, and his unwavering dedication to his family.

Bill spent his formative years shaping his future with every adventure and misadventure. He grew into a man known for his loving nature, his handy skills, and his friendly demeanor. Bill's infectious smile and generous spirit made him a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew him.

Throughout his life, Bill's work as a mechanical extraordinaire was not just a job but a passion. His hands could fix anything, and his mind was always searching for the next solution. His work was his art, and he took pride in every project he completed. His involvement in various associations highlighted his commitment to his craft and his desire to share his knowledge with others.

Bill's interests were as diverse as his skills. A lover of motorcycles, he felt most alive with the wind in his hair and the open road before him. His love for world travel spoke to his adventurous spirit, always seeking new experiences and cultures. An avid fisherman, Bill found peace by the water, a pastime he enjoyed with family and friends. His loyalty to the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs was unwavering, and he relished the camaraderie of game days.

But above all, Bill's heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Emilia Rosado Kent; his son, Mike Kent; his daughters, Amanda Castillo (Lupe) and Samantha Brex; his adored grandchildren, Violet, Ricky, Bentley, Lucas, and Analiese; and his siblings, Cathy & Dan Fugiel, Robert & Sherae Kent, Patti & Terry Shafer, Tim & Shari Kent, Suzie Kent & Kirk Ludwick, Carol & Dean Gahart, and Terry & Shannon Kent. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Murray Kent and Anne Lou Kent.

Bill's life philosophy echoed the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Indeed, Bill succeeded in every measure of the word, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and the gentle touch of kindness that reached far beyond his immediate circle.

As we bid farewell to Bill, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life rich with experiences, and a heart that never grew weary of giving. He was a beacon of light to his family, a steadfast friend, and a soul whose memory will be treasured forever.

William Michael Kent's life will be celebrated in a private gathering of family and friends, where stories will be shared, tears will be shed, and laughter will undoubtedly echo in remembrance of a man who made every room brighter simply by being in it. Though he has left our sight, the essence of his spirit—a blend of strength, warmth, and an ever-present twinkle of mischief—remains with us. Bill's journey on this earth has come to an end, but the path he blazed in the hearts of those who loved him continues to shine brightly, guiding us forward with memories that will never fade.
