Joan Schmidt, 86, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton died Monday October 14, 2024 at home. She was the widow of Edward Carl Schmidt who died on June 20, 2012.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George and Marjorie Edwards Albig. A graduate of Scranton Central high School, prior to retirement she was employed by PA Illuminating Corp.
A woman of devout faith, she had been an organist at Primitive Methodist Church on East Market St. and she currently was a fill-in pianist at Waverly United Methodist Church. She was a current member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, but found her home at Waverly United Methodist Church. While her dear husband Edward was alive they enjoyed going on days trips, attending local fairs, and camping. She enjoyed tending to her roses and garden, making quilts for her family and knitting mittens for children and the homeless. Additionally, she spent time working with her nephew on her family ancestry. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are nephew Douglas W. Albig, Dunmore; step-daughters, Linda Schmidt Young and husband Paul, Florida, Cindy Schmidt Hricko and husband Joseph, Fleetville; granddaughter, Kristin Hricko Stanavitch and husband Nicholas, South Abington Twp; great-grandchildren Sophia Eleanora and Olivia Stanavitch.
She was preceded in death by brother George W. Albig Jr. and his wife Audrey.
Private funeral services will be conducted from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc. 1030 N. Main Ave. Interment and committal services Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. There will be no public calling hours.
