Raymond Scott Daugherty, “Ray” to most of his family and friends, went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2024. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary, his daughter, Desireè, daughter-in-law Alice, grandson Christopher, his brother Ricky Daugherty (Kristy), sisters Rhonda Comley (Mike), Mona Coffey (Bear), and Robin Daugherty (James), his lifelong friend, Tony Burton, special friends, Jesse Garon, Amanda Lasley, and the last remaining member of the Renegade Band, Joe Cogine, also included is his large extended family and his rescue animals.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Sue Daugherty, both sets of grandparents, his longtime musician “brothers”, Bob Harris, Robby McIntosh, and Donnie Sowder, and his four beloved pets, Dharma Kitty, Pups Portia, Shawn, and Pudgy.
Ray grew up in Youngers Creek, KY. He was an avid Musician and could play multiple instruments by ear. He was the bass player for 25 years for the Sierra and Renegade bands, He was happiest when he was onstage playing his beloved bass guitar.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. After his stint in the Army, he spent many years working in construction with J & G Associates and Drywall Acoustics. He helped build many of the high-rise buildings in Louisville, including, The Summit, the Jewish Hand Library, Watterson City East Building, the Meijers on Dixie Highway, and the Brinks Building at the airport.
After he retired from construction, Ray spent 13 years as the head of maintenance at the Gold Vault Inn in Radcliff.
Ray was a man of many talents, most of them self-taught. He could build or repair just about anything. But most of all he was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend, and he loved Jesus.
Ray chose cremation. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 2PM at the Boston Community Center.
