Gordon passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by love. He was born on January 25, 1942, in the Sulphur Community to the late Fletcher and Pearl Dickerson Copeland.

Gordon’s life was a testament to hard work, humility, and faith. A proud Methodist, he lived as an example of kindness and devotion. His early years were spent farming alongside his dear friend, Bill Thrasher, a friendship that stood the test of time. Gordon found his calling in operating heavy equipment, earning the affectionate title of “the legend of the grader” during his time with H&C Asphalt. He poured his heart into his work, whether as co-owner of Quality Asphalt Sealing or later, working with his nephews at Copeland DRP—a role he especially loved because of the strong family ties it gave him.

But Gordon’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He shared 62 beautiful years with his wife, Sandra Mabrey Copeland, whom he adored. Together, they raised two daughters, Fran Coleman and Jan Walker (husband Greg), who were the light of his life. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Nick Coleman, Whit Coleman, Lakeisha Bryson (husband Josh), Gregory Walker II (wife Julieann), and Trevor Walker (wife Claire), as well as his 12 great-grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness.

Gordon was the kind of man who made everyone feel special. Whether spending time with his siblings—Kenneth Copeland (wife Linda), Maurice Copeland (wife June), Don Copeland (wife Pat), and Marie Philpot—or sharing stories with his cousin Heidi Brown (husband Donald), Gordon cherished every moment with those he loved.

He taught his family the value of hard work, faith, and kindness. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was more than a grandfather—he was a role model and a source of unconditional love.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Copeland Huddleston, whom he missed dearly.

Gordon’s legacy is one of love, faith, and dedication. He leaves behind a family and community that will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
