Robert Edwin Wuorinen, aged 86, passed away on October 14th, 2024 after a long hard fought battle of prostate cancer. Born April 12th, 1938 from Dundalk, Maryland, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Joan E. Wuorinen and his parents, Taisto E. and Helen E. Wuorinen. 

Robert is survived and will always be remembered and loved by his brother Donald E. Wuorinen and wife Christel, his daughters Kathy Bernhart (Stephen), Gail Young (David), and his cherished grandchildren Colby, Connor, and Sydney. 

He will be remembered as a man who served his country honorably as a 20 year retired veteran of the United States Navy as a Hull Technician First Class, and 20 year Civil Servant. More importantly he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grand pop who taught us all about life and how to laugh. 

When not at home spending time with his wife and grandchildren, Bob was an avid fisherman, never one to turn down an invite by fellow Virginia Beach Anglers Club members to head out to the third island or Chesapeake Light to cast a line in hopes of catching another citation. He always had his tacklebox and rods ready at a moments notice. We were all the benefactors of a great fishing trip from Bob. He was the master of broiling or frying fish and his hush puppies were the very best. Bob loved his seafood but his favorite food in the world were Maryland steamed crabs. 

The family will all carry on his legacy of wit, wisdom, humor, and their love for Maryland steamed crabs. 

 A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be held on November 2, at 1 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home - Southside Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to The Prostate Cancer Society
