Gerald W. "Jerry" Statzer, age 84, of Bristol, VA, was called home to heaven on Monday, October 14, 2024 after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years Marie Barker Statzer, parents Jack and Trula, siblings Ann, Bill, and Jackie. Surviving siblings are Dale, and Jane.
Jerry was born in Noblesville, IN on December 11, 1939. He was the third of six siblings, and grew up in the Bristol, VA and Washington County, VA area. He graduated from Hamilton High School in Mendota, VA. He married Marie Maybell Barker, the love of his life since the fifth grade.
After working in Chicago, IL and Westfield, IN, the young couple moved their growing family to a farm in Mendota, VA while Jerry worked at Raytheon. He moved the family back to Westfield, IN where he owned an appliance store and a construction company while commuting back to Mendota to oversee his growing farm. The family returned to Mendota, VA where he expanded his farm to include tobacco, beef cattle and a dairy.
Later in life he concentrated his efforts in developing his rental properties in Bristol, VA.
Jerry was a devout Christian and a member of several churches in the communities in which he lived. He was a member of Charity Baptist in Blountville, TN in his latter years.
Jerry is survived by his four children, sons, Wayne and wife Patricia, Darrell and wife Amy,
daughters Patti and husband Jake Haught, and Wanda, and husband Gary Hensley.
Also survived by twelve grandchild all of whom he gave nicknames which they still answer to: Gerald III "Captain", Matthew "Sparky", Sarah "Tadpole", Amanda "Weepee", Jessica "Tubbs", Gary, Jr. "Buck", Jacob "Tojo", Joshua "Mojo", John "Stormy", Steven "Bobo", James "Squirrel", Jenny "Lil Sug".
Jerry greatly enjoyed teasing his great grandchildren: Zachary, Leah, Kaleb, Kari, Susanna, Joseph, Daisy. Soon to arrive is Samuel.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 19, 2024 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Associate Pastor Dillon White of Charity Baptist officiating. The burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. the family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
