Barbara Jane Burcham Obituary

Barbara Jane Burcham (née Evatt) was born October 14, 1943 in Hobart, OK. She left this world on October 14, 2024, her 81st birthday, in her longtime home of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Bertha Evatt; her brother, Bobbie (Bob) Evatt; and her husband of 43 years, James (Jim) Burcham.

Barbara’s memory lives on through her children, Joel Burcham and Natali (Burcham) Horab; their spouses, Kelley (Thompson) Burcham and Peter Horab; and her grandchildren, Mia and Ian Burcham and Maysa and Lillie Horab.

Barbara graduated from Lone Wolf High School and continued her education at the University of Oklahoma for a degree in elementary education, going on to get her MAED in special education from Central State University. She acquired numerous accolades over the course of the 30+ years she worked as a teacher in the Houston Independent School District, including Teacher of the Year. Barbara took great joy in pouring into the many students who passed through her classroom. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, and we will all miss her dearly.
