James W. “Jim” Pointer, 83, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Monday morning, October 14, 2024, at the Legacy Silverton Medical Center in Silverton, Oregon.

Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove.

JAMES WALTER POINTER was born November 22, 1940, in Baker, Oregon, the son of the late Harold L. Pointer and Carol (Maddox) Pointer. He was raised and received his education in the Baker community, having been a graduate of the Baker High School Class of 1958.

He was a Veteran of the Vietnam era, having served one enlistment in the United States Army, until receiving his honorable discharge on June 3, 1964, at the rank of Private First Class III.

Jim was united in marriage to Needa Marie Riddell on July 26, 1962, in Stevenson, Washington. They celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary this past July. Following their marriage, they moved to the Forest Grove community, where they had resided since.

Jim worked as a farmer in the agriculture industry for many years, until he retired.

He was a member of the Cornelius Eagles Lodge Aerie #4177.

Among his special interests, Jim enjoyed going to the Eagles Club, bowling, and spending time with his children.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Carol Pointer, his daughter Christina, and his three sons James, Raymond and Wayne Pointer.

Survivors include his wife, Needa Pointer, of Silverton, Oregon, his daughter Lei Lani Pointer and his son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Jessica Pointer.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
