Elvina Marie Wilkey, known affectionately as Elvy, left us peacefully on October 14, 2024, in Berkley, Michigan. Born on August 30, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, Elvy's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her loving nature, and her innate ability to bring people together.
She grew up and graduated from school in New Buffalo ,Michigan. After meeting her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Wilkey Jr. they moved to Lansing for his career. Elvy then devoted over three decades, to her role as a General Manager at Jack Dykstra Ford.
Beyond her career, Elvy's devotion to her Catholic faith was a cornerstone in her life. A long-time member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, she carried her faith with her like a beacon of light, and when St. Casimir's doors closed, she found a new spiritual home at St. Gerard Catholic Church. She moved to Hacienda Village in Florida from 1999 until she returned home to Michigan in 2021, where she lived in Berkley with her daughter Kelli. During her time in Florida, she thrived in helping to plan the activities and parties for her retirement community.
As the matriarch of her family, she was the heart and soul of every celebration, effortlessly orchestrating events that would become cherished memories for her family and friends.
Her enthusiasm for games, particularly Bingo, was well known. Elvy was also a fervent supporter of Notre Dame Football, where her weekends in the fall were spent cheering on her beloved fighting Irish.
Elvy was preceded in death by her parents, Garfield and Ruth (Linton) Hawley, her beloved husband of 37 years Robert Wilkey Jr. (1998), her siblings John Hawley, Jackie Steder, and Kathryn (Philip) Kirk, and her daughter Katheryn Wilkey (1998).
She is survived by her loving children, Kevin (Josephine) Wilkey, Karrie Wray, Kimberly (Charles) Brown, Kelli Wilkey, and Karolyn (Kellen) Wilkey; five grandchildren, Kyle (Cassie) Wilkey, Kevin Wray, Wyatt Wray, Bradley (Diana) Brown, and Brandon (Jennifer) Brown; ten great-grandchildren, Kinsley Wilkey, Kauge Wilkey, Willow Wilkey, Karter Wray, Braven Brown, Onyx Brown, Amelia Brown, Abraham Brown, Arlo Brown, and Ashton Brown; sister-in-law Candy Hawley; brother-in-law Robert Steder, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Bob Bacik as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue Friday at the church at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice at Donation - Heart To Heart Hospice Foundation (htohhfoundation.org) in memory of Elvina.
