Johnny Henry Herrera Jr. Obituary

Johnny H. Herrera Jr. returned home to God on September 29, 2024, at the age of 53. Johnny was born in Tularosa, NM on December 11, 1970, to Johnny H. Herrera Sr. and Alvina Locklear. He grew up in a close-knit family and attended Sacramento Elementary, Chaparral Junior High, and graduated from Alamogordo High School. Johnny made many lifelong friends in school. His early education laid a strong foundation for his later endeavors, including his honorable service in the United States Army which he served from 1989-1993. Johnny was one of the many heroes who defended our country in Desert Storm. After his military service, Johnny met and married Selena Chino, and they had their beautiful children, whom his whole world revolved around. Words can never express what his children meant to him. Johnny dedicated his life not only to his children, but to many other kids in his community. He nurtured their young minds and spirits as a wonderful father, mentor, and coach, influencing many in softball and basketball.

Johnny also gave many years to and was a cherished employee of Alamo Earthwork & Paving. His dedication was evident in this specialty line of work as well. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and loved to attend their annual fiesta. He was known for his loving personality which made him stand out in his community. Johnny became passionate about sports at a very young age. He was a devout Raiders, Lakers, Dodgers, and Tarheels fan.

Johnny leaves behind his loving, beautiful mother Alvina Locklear; children (his heart) Mikael (wife Kaytlin-whom he loved as his own) Herrera, Aciana Herrera, Ayanna Herrera, Meyli Herrera, and Nakoa Perez; grandchildren Jaelynn Herrera, Johnny Herrera, Josiah Herrera and Janie Herrera; mother of his children, Selena Herrera; siblings Sonia Caldwell, Christine Martin, Lavitta Herrera, Eunice Herrera, Tobias Montoya Herrera; and his girlfriend Nina Gonzales, as well as many nieces and nephews who love him dearly.

Johnny is preceded in death by his father Johnny H. Herrera Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Manuel and Elisa Herrera; maternal grandparents Jose and Rafaela Martinez, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The Herrera family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel.
