Gary Gene Wellman Obituary

Gary Gene Wellman, 85, of Lenore, West Virginia, entered his heavenly home on Monday, October 14, 2024, while surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on April 26, 1939, to the late Jack and Bertha (Farley) Wellman of Williamson, West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Wellman, Bernard Wellman, Dana “Bud” Wellman, Larry Wellman, and Jack Jr. Wellman; his sisters, Kathleen Canterbury, Patsy Maynard, and Donna Wellman; as well as his grandsons, Timothy Forrest Wellman and Joshua Seth Hatfield.

Gary devoted his life to serving the Lord Jesus Christ. He faithfully served as a deacon, groundskeeper, church bus driver, and custodian at Nolan Street Church. He was also proud to have served in the West Virginia National Guard. Over the years, Gary worked at TRAMCO, was co-owner of Tug Valley Electric and Pioneer Mine Repair companies, and later retired from St. Francis Hospital in Greer, South Carolina.

An avid outdoorsman, Gary cherished spending his weekends coon hunting, gardening, tending his bees, and harvesting honey. Wherever he went, he took every opportunity to invite people to church and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Edith (Lowe) Wellman; his sons, Bruce (Tina) Wellman of Nolan, WV, Jack (Maureen) Wellman of Winfield, WV, and Peter (Annie) Wellman of Lenore, WV; his daughters, Vicki (Dave) Huff of Greer, SC, Kelly (BJ) Hatfield of Lenore, WV, and April (Billy) Fox of Wesley Chapel, NC; his grandchildren, Joey Hatfield of Charleston, WV, Brandon Ball of Greenville, SC, Emily Huff of Greer, SC, Kaitlyn (Ethan) Randolph of Grafton, WV, Dylan Wellman of Nolan, WV, Ryan Wellman of Lenore, WV, Justin (Alandra) Wellman of Man, WV, Riley and Sidney Wellman of Winfield, Devin Wellman of Greer, SC, Derek (Ally) Wellman of Knoxville, TN, Zachary, Allison, and Jonathan Fox, all of Wesley Chapel, NC; and his great-grandchildren, Isabella Ball and Ollyve Griffin of Greer, SC, Raylin, Jade, and Renall Wellman of Man, WV; his siblings, Carolyn (James) Maynard of Turkey Creek, KY, Anita Peatross of Alliance, OH, Roger Wellman, Canada, KY, and Anna (Frank) Dary, Fairview, WV.  He is also survived by two special nieces, Donna (Eddie) Hatfield of Lenore, WV, and Jennifer Renea (Kelly) Dove of Hatfield, KY, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Nolan Street Church in Nolan, West Virginia. Pastor Earl White and Reverend Eddie Hatfield will officiate. Burial will follow at T.S. Lowe Cemetery in Hatfield, Kentucky with Joey Hatfield, Zachary Fox, Devin and Derek Wellman, Chad and Jonathan Hatfield serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Hatfield Funeral Chapel in Belfry, KY.
